I wasn't tooo sad leaving Bangkok after a few days playing for tourist...

Visa to Cambodia was very easy to get on the border according to the agency and for the rest everything should be fine.

Well, the visa is twice as expensive at the border and you require a foto, which convinietly can be taken on the spot, for a fair price ofcourse...

The guide informed us that taking money from an ATM was very difficult in cambodia, because they had the war so recently and the development was very slow. Nice and touching story, which thought this experienced world traveller a lesson in being humble again!!! I've got ripped of bigtime (40 bucks) on exchange rates... that put me back on earth again, hahaha.

All in all it IS one of the poorest countries I've been in, so I try to see it as an act of charity...

On the dirt road (can you imagine from Bangkok the number one destination into the country to the number one tourist attraction of the country) I was confronted with the state of this war-torn-country. Only in some remote areas in Bolivia have I seen a comparable situation...

When the night fell (it is only 150 Km's, more or less, but it takes forever, especially with flat tires and all) I saw a phenomenon I haven't seen before: disco black light all along the roads, too strange. Inquirements pointed out that those were Bug-Busters, to catch mr. Jiminy's (crickets, red.) for commercial reasons (sold by the kilo for nice deep fried snacks).

Angkor Wat:
This massive temple complex, known world wide trought the movie Tomb Raider (where Angelina Jolie played the leading role and got her adopt-a-asian-baby-suyndroom), was one of the things to do or see on my list. This morning at 5 o'clock I took off to see the sun come up over Angkor Wat, or shall I revere to it as Disney Wat??? And I had 'very good luck' (a typical Cambodian expression in order to make you buy a or make a offering to a Buddha) it was low season.

The temple in it's own is magnificient, so big and full of astonishing details, all build around 1100 by the hands of thousants and thousants of workers.
The complex consisting of about 40 temples is huge and I tried to see asd much as possible in one day (I can't handle more stone buildings than that, sorry for being a culture barbarian!!!). The nices were the Bayon and Preah Khan temples. The latter was really how you expected to the temples to be, half-jungle-covered and semi intact.
Just look past all the sellers and the White, Japanese and Korean flash camera's and you be fine!!!

Tomorrow I'm off to Pnom Penn, where The Killing Fields and the remains of the Pol Pot (Red Khmer) regime will be on the list... Hope I have the heart to see all of that besides the land mine victims...

I'll keep save and you on prime time, as usual, much love,

Mr. T

    Win, Men & Kids:

    Hey Timmo,
Thanks for the BD wish; always good to hear you are still surviving the big trip. We saw the movie the 'Killing fields' years ago and at the time I did find it quite depressing. I'd like to hear later on from you how you experienced the whole deal up there. It's so unreal to me that you are where you are and that you are visiting places I might never get to see. Who knows though........

You must be sticking out there like a 'sore thumb', being tall and blond. How is your gear holding up after using it for almost 1 year. Man, I can't get over it that you left about a year ago already. Will you be able to make it back in August or are you taking it easy and stay a little longer. Africa is mighty big and it might take a 'day or 2 more' to end up north. Let us know of your plans and as always: stay healthy, don't forget your pills and see you soon.
    Love ya!!!
