We also decided not to go to Nairobi straight away, but via Mombosa, if it only was for the name, sounds very African doesn't it? Our friendly in-hostal travel agency arranged the trip. We only had to change bus once for it wasn't direct... it was not even heading towards it!!! We only discovered on the road, next time we'll check before actually leaving, hahaha. It quite a detour a we had to spend another day in Tanzania, but who cares, no us!!!
The following day only a couple of hours more to Mombasa, always a bit exciting crossing a border, never know what kinda things they're going to pull on a couple of M'zungu's this time. But on the contrary to other times we were lucky this time. We calculated a visa cost of $50 each, but asked about transit-visa, the price was $20 and valid for 7 days, good deal. I paid for the both of us, had a laught with the officer about 'going Dutch' (paying only for yourself) and walked away with paying $10 each!!! That's a nice welcome, karibu sani!!!
Mombasa is by far the best city we've been in in East Africa. Nice people, beautiful colonial old town center and a vivit city life. Staying here for a couple of days (taking abreak form the back-breaking busjourney's) a then via Nairobi to the border. New adventure in 'Arabic Africa'.
Big kiss from us, 'till next time!!!
