It has been a very interesting time although my previous sceptism... Hong Kong is a place that you either love or hate, there is no middle way. But none the less it paints a -very realistic- picture of the possible future. At least in the 'urban' world.
And even though the people are well dressed and have -so it seems- enought to eat. It is painfully to see in what kind of imaginary world they life. In this workaholic society the only way to be escape the 24/7 economy and to actually be a human being, seems to be found in shopping. There are manny different ways of being poor.
I found myself walking like a curious little child in this surrealistic (matrix) world of skyscraper, endless malls (with all their superficial necessities) and countless people. Always in a hurry.
In a situation like this you have to try to find out the story behind it all. Luckily I had a very nice Hong Kongnese host who took me to her family on one of the islands, to show the 'other side' of Hong Kong. Invited me to a dinner and a movie (Transformers) together with her girlfriend. And joined a Tai Chi lessons on the river side early in the morning.
This all opened up the city a little for me, in all controversy.
Had a good finish, cause I met my Romanian friend, Cris, today and so we shared a nice coffee, dinner and some thoughts about life.
Tomorrow coffee with Daantje. Keep y'all informed, beso,
T
